Celebration of Christ Church of the Brethren - The church family you've been looking for!
About Us
We are a church that believes in a loving, faithful God and in his Son, Jesus Christ who died for our sins and was resurrected so we can know salvation and life now and eternally. We believe that the Bible is trust worthy and true. The Holy Spirit guides us and gives us power. We are called to live as Christ did until his second coming. We reach out to others through living peacefully, providing compassionately to victims of disaster and war, serving the poor, and proclaiming the love of Christ for all.
First Church of the Brethren practices the ordinances (sacraments) of the New Testament, including Public Confession of Faith, Trine Immersion Baptism (in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit), Confirmation by Laying On of Hands, Three-fold Holy Communion (Washing of Feet, Love Feast, Bread and Cup), and Anointing with Oil for healing. We believe that baptism is for believers who are old enough to understand and confess their faith in Jesus Christ and that babies and children are a precious part of the church family who should be dedicated to God in a special service of consecration.
All baptized persons are called to ministry and have been given spiritual gifts for the building up of the body of Christ, his church. We believe in simple living, faithful giving of self and material resources, and respect for the whole creation of God.
We are a member of "Church of the Brethren" a Christian protestant denomination that started in 1708 in Europe. Currently there are about 1,100 congregations in the United States, with sister churches in Africa, India, Europe, the Caribbean, and South America. As a Historic Peace Church, "On Earth Peace" is our national Peace organization, which promotes the nonviolent peacemaking teachings and example of Jesus toward all people. If you would like to know more about our denomination please check out our denominational web site www.brethren.org
